Fire and Water, The Fire Horse at Mid-Year
Christine Cannon

Our Sponsors

As the Fire Horse year reaches its peak, many practitioners are noticing shifts in both the environment and the clinic.

In this conversation with Christine Cannon, we explore the interaction of fire and water through the lens of Wu Yun Liu Qi, and how these energies may be influencing respiratory health, anxiety, fatigue, and emotional resilience.

We also discuss the importance of protecting Wei Qi, creating restorative space, and finding balance during periods of heightened activity and change.

Listen in for a practical discussion on seasonal influences, constitutional health, and navigating the energetic themes of the year.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Fire Horse year influences – How the year’s energy may be shaping health and behaviour.
  • Fire and water dynamics – The balance between rising fire and abundant water.
  • Climate and Qi – Weather patterns viewed through a Wu Yun Liu Qi lens.
  • Lung health trends – The rise in lingering coughs and respiratory issues.
  • Fire affecting metal – Heat placing extra pressure on the lungs.
  • Unexplained anxiety – Restlessness and sleep disruption without obvious causes.
  • Feeling depleted – The growing sense of fatigue and energetic drain.
  • Protecting Wei Qi – Supporting resilience during seasonal shifts.
  • Constitutional factors – How birth energetics may influence health patterns.
  • Applying Wu Yun Liu Qi – Using seasonal theory to inform treatment.
  • The need for restoration – Creating space for rest and recovery.
  • Collective stress responses – Navigating ongoing external pressures.
  • Working with Yang energy – Channelling strong energy into creative pursuits.
  • Practitioner sustainability – Managing fatigue while supporting patients.

Treat what you see. Less is often more, and don’t take your patient’s response to treatment personally.

I’ve been a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist with over 30 years of clinical experience. My treatment approach has evolved over time and is now based on a deep respect for classical texts and Chinese cosmology. Teaching has been a central part of my journey as a practitioner. I am particularly passionate about making complex theories, case management, pattern differentiation, and treatment strategies accessible and meaningful—whether I’m working with beginners or experienced practitioners. Helping others grow and build their clinical confidence is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
