I feel sort of dumb asking, but how do you angle against the channel at SJ2? where do you start the insertion? SJ3?

SJ2 sedate = needle against the direction of the meridian flow = needle tip directs distal

The need is inserted at the defined location of SJ2 or maybe a few milimeters proximal. The push distal into the tissue.

so the needle tip starts about 1/2 way to SJ 3? with a very shallow insert?

No. Starting close to textbook location of SJ2. Insert about 10 - 12 mm deep.
