Hi! In another Saam class, we've seen that the angle when puncturing needs to be pretty dramatic to get a good grip to the fibers. I find it difficult to needle Kid10 and Lv8 following the channel or against it as I get stuck inside the knee crease... And they are pretty important so I'd like to improve my technique! Any particular tips for puncturing these two points in terms of location / angle? How deep do you needle them?
Thanks!
Hello Catherine,
Conventional point location of these points is not so easy to find. I needs practice and will get better over time. You can needle quite deeply depending on size and amount of fat tissue of the patient (overweight?).
The angle is sometimes a bit hard to achieve especially if you needle while the knee is flexed (like I do). I like to needle them with flexed knee because the tendons you try to locate will be more loose and thus easier to palpate. Do not forget needle rotation and the other techniques to sedate and tonify as they are an important part of it. So direction is not all.
For both points but especially Kid10 the area of the point will feel a bit "swampy" (soft, muddy or damp) as they are the water points. Especially Kid10 has this quality (Water point of Water meridian).
