Andreas . . . you mentioned yesterday (thank you for such a wonderful webinar!) that the Six Qi pertain more to immediate time frame symptoms while the Five Phases pertain more to longer time frame manifestations . . . I am wondering if in your experience, that also shows up through how things manifest after treatment . . . with the Six Qi aspect of the Saam treatment expressing its impact more immediately and the Five Phase aspect of the Saam treatment expressing itself over a longer time frame (perhaps subtle things to detect) . . .
Hi Schulman,
I am not sure if this question can really be answered directly. I have so far none of the Korean doctors I discussed with this ever hear mentioning any distinction of diseases, signs and symptions in Five Element or Six Qi related phenomena.
Theoretically speaking we can think about the Five Element aspect as the longer lasting and not so easy to change aspect of the human existance and the Six Qi as something that will change more quickly. So I think on a general level we could possibly relate the Five Element aspect more to the constitution and the Six Qi more to fast changing phenomena like a disease. And certainly it will take more time (or might even be impossible) to change the constitutional imprinting of a person. If you are genetically born with a weak digestive system (Earth) or a having a tendency to dry or oily skin for instance to change this is partly not possible or will take a lot of time and effort on a basic level. But we can treat the disease. In fact, in Kim, Hong-Gyeong's advanced Sambu acupuncture that targets at the constitional imbalance we will focus more on the Five Element imbalance. So in clincal practice (or according to the theory he developed for it) it therefore relates more to the Five Elements.
